Colonel Sidney Raymond Steinberg, M.D., 76, the son of the late Martha Jacobs Steinberg and Irving Steinberg of Lexington, Kentucky, and the brother of the late Harvey Steinberg of New Jersey passed away on September 27, 2012. Dr. Steinberg is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sheila Steinberg, daughters Margie Bowman of Frankfort and Jill Steinberg of Boston, sons Don Steinberg of Cincinnati and Matt Steinberg of Louisville, five grandchildren, and sisters, Cookie Kabakoff, of Arlington, Texas, and Janice Crane, of Lexington.
Dr. Steinberg, a resident of Union, Kentucky, was a decorated Army Veteran and accomplished general surgeon with more than 40 years of practice. Dr. Steinberg (or “Sid,” as most called him) was born in Georgetown, Kentucky on June 27, 1936, and grew up in Lexington.
Sid entered the University of Kentucky Medical School graduating in 1965. Having already been active in the ROTC and Army Reserves, he did his residency and internships with the US Army taking him all over the country and to Germany.
Sid, we salute you – as a veteran, physician, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and dear friend – and hope that you are now at peace. You will be in our hearts and souls forever.
Donations in honor of Dr. Steinberg’s memory may be made to either the Veterans Administration or to Hospice of Cincinnati.
