Wendell Bayes 93, husband of the late Allene Yates Bayes, died September 29, 2012.
Mr. Bayes was born in Johnson County, Kentucky to the late Charlie and Charlotte Vencil Bayes. He attended early schooling in a one-room schoolhouse in Pigeon Creek, Kentucky, later teaching for two years at the same school.
He was a graduate from Oil Springs High School and attended Morehead State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky. Mr. Bayes was employed by the State of Kentucky Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer.
He was a Veteran of World War II, proudly serving his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army with a tour in France and Germany. Mr. Bayes was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and a member of the Methodist Men, the Walter-Ruth Sunday School Class, VFW, a member of the Kentucky Association of Transportation Engineers, a Kentucky Colonel, an avid gardener and University of Kentucky Wildcats Fan.
Mr. Bayes is survived by one son, Howard Wendell Bayes and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Bayes, Frankfort; one brother, Harold Bayes, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Genieva Willams and two brothers Ted and Hershell Bayes.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will be officiated by the Reverends Elvyn Hamilton and Don Hatton.
Casket bearers will be Rodney Barker, James Beason, Allen Boone, Daniel Collins, Jim O’Bryan and William Yates. Honorary casketbearers will be John Witt and the members of the St. Paul United Methodist Men.
