Nancy Edwards

Nancy Roberts Edwards, 72 of Frankfort passed away October 3, 2012. She was born July 26, 1940, in Mt. Sterling, KY to the late James Y. and Annie Oldham Roberts. She is survived by two children (twins); Elizabeth “Beth” Stevens, Frankfort; and Eric Scott Edwards (Amy); and granddaughter, Emma Sophia Edwards, Hebron, KY. Also surviving is a close personal friend, Jack Eckler, Williamstown, KY.

She was a graduate of Montgomery County High School and Morehead State University with a degree in Home Economics. She worked 42 years for the University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Service as a County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Science in three Kentucky Counties; Green County (3 years); Washington County (7 years) and Franklin County (32 years).

She taught Home Economics one year in Norfolk, Virginia.

She was very active professionally having served as State President of three different organizations: Kentucky Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Kentucky Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, and Epsilon Sigma Phi. She also served as Third Vice President of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Honors received: UK School of Human Environmental Sciences Centennial Laureate Award for work and achievement to the profession over the past century, Outstanding Agent Award KEAFCS and KAFCS; National Extension Educator of the Year finalist, Distinguished Service Award, and Continued Excellence Award. In 2012 she was recognized as a 50-year member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences at the National meeting.

She was an active member and past President of the Rotary Club of Frankfort with 18 years perfect attendance. She was a Paul Harris and Pat Ireland Fellow and was selected Rotarian of the Year in 2007.

Membership in other organizations included: National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), KY Historical Society, Life member of the UK College of Agriculture and Human Environmental Sciences Alumni, Delta Sigma Gamma, UK Art Museum, UK Arboretum, Blue Grass Hemerocallis Society, and The Lexington Travel Club.

She was a member of the Frankfort First United Methodist Church, having served on the Board of Trustees for 20 years, and a member of the Fine Arts committee.

Funeral services will be held Tues., October 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Sayre and Rev. Jackson Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation is Mon., October 8 from 4-8pm at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Tolliver, Jim Vittetow, Ed Klee, Jack Eckler, Mike Feldman, and Tom Majcher.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in memory of Ms. Edwards to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 211 Washington St., Frankfort, KY 40601.
