Dorothy Conway Roberts, 94, widow of the late Marshall “Dick” Roberts, passed away Friday, October 5, 2012, at Oakleaf Village at Thornblade after suffering a stroke related to Alzheimer’s. She was born in Frankfort, KY on July 26, 1918, to the late Ben and Lula Conway. She was the last surviving member of 14 siblings.
She is survived by a son, Marshall T. Roberts and special friend Angel Thompson of Simpsonville, SC; a daughter, Debbie Roberts-Keene and husband Daniel of Simpsonville, SC; four grandchildren, Timothy Roberts and wife Shelli, Jennifer Shiseflett and husband Jason, Andrew Keene and wife Amber, and Father Christopher Keene; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a dear sister-in-law, Louise Conway of Frankfort, KY. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Barbara Ann Roberts.
Dorothy and Dick lived in Baltimore, MD for 35 years where they were active at Shelbourne Baptist Church and Catonsville Baptist Church. After retirement, they returned to Frankfort, KY where they attended Crestview Baptist Church. Dorothy was active at the Frankfort Senior Citizens Center, where she volunteered, a former member of the Frankfort Women’s Club, a member of the Ladies American Legion and VFW. She and Dick spent many weekends dancing at Country Place.
In their later years, they moved to Simpsonville, SC to be near family. After Dick’s passing in 2008, she moved to Oakleaf Village at Thornblade. Even with Alzheimer’s, Dorothy continued to enjoy dancing and singing gospel songs. While at Oakleaf, her infectious smile and love touched everyone. She was the “Dancing Queen.”
Many thanks to the staff at Oakleaf for such wonderful care of our mom. They truly made it her home. Also, thank you to Hospice Care of South Carolina for their round-the-clock care of mom.
Services will be held in Baltimore, MD at Ambrose Funeral Home at 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
Burial will be at Loudon Park Cemetery, where her beloved husband Dick, granddaughter Barbara, and daughter-in-law Linda are buried.
