Julia Elizabeth Monie Griffin, 79, entered this life on February 28, 1933 and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 30, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.
She was the daughter of the late Will Berry and Emma Monie. Julia professed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church where she remained a member until her death. She was educated at Rosenwald School and graduated from Mayo Underwood High School.
Julia was gifted with a beautiful voice and sang throughout her younger years in her high school glee club and also First Baptist Church. Julia was also a member of the gospel group the “Harmonettes” which performed in churches throughout Kentucky during the 1950s. In later years her favorite pastime was talking on the phone into the late hours with her Cousin Mabel.
She was retired from state government and was a life member of Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9235 which she faithfully supported.
Julia was preceded in death by her son Dennis Griffin and her brother William Monie. She leaves to cherish her memory four devoted children who were the delights of her life, James (Barbara) Monie, Albert (Roxanne) Davis, Robert Griffin and Varita Griffin, brother James (Patricia) Monie and sister Emma Tillman, all of Frankfort, KY. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services are Friday November 2, 2012 at First Baptist Church, High and Clinton Street, at 12:00 noon. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. until time of the services. Pastor Robert L. Houston, officiating.
