Helen Jacobs Sparks, 100, died peacefully at her home in Frankfort on Thursday morning, November 1, 2012.
Born in Grayson, Kentucky, on December 4, 1911, Mrs. Sparks was the daughter of the late Florence Pulliam and John Barker Jacob Sparks, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Lee “Sparky” Sparks; a step-son, Harold Sparks; two sisters, Cordia Mae (George) Moses and Jo (Ledford) Leger; three brothers, Carroll Wilson (Mettie) Jacobs, Sr., Russell Walter (Maurine) Jacobs, Sr., and John Barker (Marcella) Jacobs, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Marcella Jacobs of Lexington, KY; a step-son, Marcus Wendell Sparks of Wetumpka, AL; four nephews, Carroll Wilson (Julia) Jacobs, Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Donald Lee (Phoebe) Jacobs of Louisiana, John Barker (Pam) Jacobs III, and Robert Bruce (Diane) Staggs of Hendersonville, TN; five nieces, Martha Sue Oakes of Lexington, KY, Mary Lou (Sam) Northrop, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Paula Aubrey of Brunswick, OH, Della Frances Little of Montgomery, AL, and Helen Mae (Charles Richard “Dickie”) Dawkins, Jr. of Frankfort, KY; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
Mrs. Sparks was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for many years, and was a member of the XYZ Senior Group. She was also a member of the Frankfort Garden Club and the Frankfort Woman’s Club.
Visitation will be held in Rogers Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Frankfort Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Flowers are welcomed, while the family requests that donations be made to the Benevolence Fund ad Immanuel Baptist Church in Helen’s memory.
