Virginia Louise Harrod Watkins, age 90, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
Services for Mrs. Watkins will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Crestwood Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Hail officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
A lifelong resident of Franklin County, she was born January 25, 1922, the second of five children and first daughter of Chauncy and Ora Elizabeth Brophy Harrod. She was a graduate of Bald Knob High School, Class of 1939 and worked briefly at the Union Underwear factory before enrolling in the Shaw Secretarial School in Frankfort in 1940. At the age of 30, she went to work for Commonwealth of Kentucky, retired after 30 years of service and enjoyed 30 years of retirement. Mrs. Watkins was an Avon consultant for 45 years. She was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church for 56 years, attended the Alpha Bible Class, Young at Heart Fellowship, a member of the Adult Choir, Senior Friends and Franklin County Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her husband, Irvine G. Watkins; two sons, Ronald and Carl Thomas Watkins; her parents; and a brother, Carlos Coleman Harrod.
She is survived by her son, Danny Dale Watkins (Mary); two grandchildren, Mark Thomas Watkins and Laurie Lee Watkins and their mother, Gail Mountford Watkins; three step grandchildren, David Renwick, John Davis and Mary Beth Lambert; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Marie Watkins and Vanessa Nicole Brooke Watkins; two brothers, L.T. Harrod (Lois), Harold W. Harrod (June Doris); a sister, Ollie K. Snook; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David Ray Harrod, Harold Scott Harrod, Roy Gene Snook, Mark Thomas Watkins, Daryl Thomas Snook and John Davis will serve as pallbearers. Honorary bearers will be Laurie Lee Watkins, Elizabeth Ann Marie Watkins, Vanessa Nicole Brooke Watkins, David Renwick and Diana Trautwein.
