Joyce Alley Morse passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012. She was 78 years old. A long-time resident of Frankfort, she was the wife of the late Nile D. Morse who passed away in 2006. She is survived by her sons, Nile David Morse III and Kelly D. Morse, and her younger brother, Omar Staton.
Mrs. Morse was born on June 8, 1934, in Salt Lick, KY. After graduating from Mt. Sterling High School in 1952, she attended the University of Kentucky where she graduated in 1955 with a B.S. in Accounting. She became a Certified Public Accountant in 1964.
In 1955 she began work as an employee of Kentucky state government in the Department of Revenue. In 1964 she moved to the office of Auditor of Public Accounts where she eventually became assistant auditor under Mary Lou Faust.
Later in 1974, Mrs. Morse moved to the Department of Finance where she served as Commissioner of Administrative Services until 1979, after which she moved to the Legislative Research Commission. She continued with LRC until her retirement in October of 1988, completing 33 years of service with state government.
She was especially proud of her work with the Commonwealth Credit Union. She served on the CCU Board of Directors from 1971 to 2006 and was Chairman of the Board from 1980 to 1988.
She will be missed.
Services will be held in Rogers Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27th with interment to follow at the Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Rogers on Monday, November 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
