A Celebration of Life Service for Sylvia Rae Solheim Hays, 73 yrs., will be conducted from First Christian Church at 1 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012, with Dr. John Opsata officiating. Family and friends will be received at the church beginning at 12 p.m. on Monday, and are invited to a luncheon to be held at the church immediately following the service. A private burial will be observed.
Ms. Hays passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012, at her residence.
Sylvia was born July 21, 1939, in Franklin Co., KY, to the late Michael Benjamin and Carol Rose Marko Solheim. After graduation from high school, she attended the University of Kentucky. After retiring from State Government, she became an avid bridge player who also enjoyed opera. She was actively involved in her community by volunteering at the Franklin Co. Senior Citizens, Salvation Army, and Grand Theater. A Deacon and member of First Christian Church, Sylvia was also a volunteer in their preschool activities. To share her passion for gardening, she joined the Garden Club of Frankfort. In addition, she was a member of the Kentucky Historical Society and the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by a brother, Roger Michael (Martha) Solheim; brother-in-law, Ron Walpert; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special feline companion, Missy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Sandra S. Walpert, and husband of 30 years, Frank Hays.
