The Rev. Donald Bradley White, Sr., 88, Versailles, KY, beloved husband of Anna White, passed on to his heavenly home, Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore, KY, surrounded by his family.
Rev. White was for fifty-two years a faithful, caring pastor of Southern Baptist Churches. Born in Marion County, KY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Bessie White, Frankfort. He was a veteran of over three years in World War II, serving in the European Theater of War, for which he received several medals and a Certificate of Honor. He was a graduate of Frankfort High School, Georgetown College, and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY. He was ordained to the ministry by the Thornhill Baptist Church, Frankfort, KY in 1948. He was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church at the time of his death.
Known for his wit and humor, he had the ability to lighten most situations, and bring laughter to his family and friends. He was kind and courteous to the personnel of the Thomson-Hood Kentucky Veterans Center where he spent the last four years of his life. The family would like to thank all the personnel of the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center for their constant kindness and loving care.
Rev. White pastored churches in Grant and Boone Counties during his student days. He also pastored the Burgin Baptist Church and the Hillcrest Baptist Church, Lexington, where he ministered for 34 years. In his retirement he pastored the Hillsboro Baptist Church, Woodford County. He served on the Executive Board of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, and, for forty years, on the Executive Board of the Elkhorn Baptist Association. He also served a term as Moderator of the Elkhorn Association. He was a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Clear Creek Baptist Bible College, Pineville, KY, and was a contract chaplain for the Veterans Hospital, Cooper Dr., Lexington.
Surviving, besides his wife of 70 years, are three daughters and one son: Ruth Ann (Ernie) Hall, Versailles; Rebecca (Fred) White, Lexington; Sharon White, Lexington; and Donald B., Jr. (Cathy) White, Lexington. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Blackwell, Frankfort, KY and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, William White, his parents, five brothers, William, Ned, Albert, Basil and Thomas White, and two sisters, Mable (Paul) Feck, and Margaret (Bob) Allen.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 11, 11:00 a.m., at the Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1409 Versailles Rd., Lexington, conducted by his nephew, Dr. Charles White, Dr. Tony Hancock, and the Rev. John Brandon, with interment in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Woodford County. Visitation will be Monday, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington and one hour before the service at the church. Casket bearers will be Ernie Hall, Fred White, Robert Hall, Danny Albertson, Jeremy Burns, Jerry Ziegler, and Ryan Patrick White.
