David Lawson Newton passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Louisville, KY. He was 83 years old. David Newton was born on July 30, 1929 in Shelby County, KY where he was a resident and farmer most of his life.
Mr. Newton is survived by his long-time companion and partner, Glenna Smith, of Frankfort, KY. He is also survived by one sister, Nancy Newton Threlkeld of Erlanger, KY, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Newton was the son of the late Samuel David Newton and the late Mary Bess Lawson Newton and was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wentworth Newton. Mr. Newton was also preceded in death by his sister, Polly Newton Finny (Robert); brothers, Samuel G. Newton (Mattie) and Daniel C. Newton.
David Newton was a graduate of Henry Clay High School and was a member of Clay Village Baptist Church, both on Shelby County. He was a Shelby County magistrate for 16 years and previous owner of Big Top Tobacco Warehouse. He was also a member of the Solomon Masonic Lodge #5 for over 50 years.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27th at Shannon Funeral Home.
The funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. at Shannon Funeral Home and will be officiated by Bro. Lee Bolton and Bro. Vernon Carpenter. Pallbearers will be Jim Smith, Roger Early, Ron Bland, David Finney, Wayne Puckett, and Steve Fox.
Mr. Newton will be laid to rest at Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, KY.
Graveside services will be private.
