FRANKFORT – George F. Brooks, Sr., 87, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
He was born on September 6, 1925, in Carrollton, KY to the late Albert and Ida McManis Brooks. He served in the US Navy from 1941 to 1945 then the US Marines for the duration of WWII. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was employed as the Lock Keeper of Lock #2 in Lockport, KY and later retired from federal employment at Bluegrass Army Depot. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a Life Member of VFW Post 4075 Frankfort, KY.
He is survived by his sister Virginia “Betty” Partin; two sons Richard (Mary) and George, Jr. (Teresa) both of Frankfort, KY and two daughters Sharlene Salmons (Bernie) of Mt. Sterling, KY and Sherry Ferguson (Alan) of Georgetown, KY; six grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 8 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd., Frankfort, with Pastor James Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. VFW Post 4075 will present Military Honors at the graveside. Casket-bearers are Jason Brooks, Josh Smith, Alan Ferguson, Chris Barnes, Isaac Barnes, and Doug Smith. Honorary Casket-Bearer is Stanley Smith. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013, at the funeral home.
