FRANKFORT – Wilbur Roland Akins, age 89, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Heritage Hall Care Center.
Services for Mr. Akins will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013, at North Frankfort Baptist Church with Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and a Masonic Service at 4:00 p.m. The lodge will open at 3:30 p.m.
A native of Anderson County, he was born July 17, 1923. Mr. Akins served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater Operations. He retired from Ancient Age Distillers and was a former employee of Clark Legacy Center and Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Akins was a 50-year member of Hiram Lodge #4 F&AM and a member of North Frankfort Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Annie Belle Blankenship Akins; daughters, Connie Johnson (Bruce) and Charlotte Waters; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Aaron, Meagan and James; six great grandchildren, Emily, Elizabeth, Issac, Mia, Wyatt and Clara; numerous nieces and nephews and a very special niece, Mary Katherine Akins Logan.
Mr. Akins was preceded in death by his parents, William Rollen Akins and Mary Elizabeth Watts Akins; five sisters, Elizabeth Henry, Elenore Beasley, Mary Martin, Neille Buntain, Katherine Lewis and seven brothers, Willie E., Allie “Buck”, Wallace, Thomas, James, Julian “Dude” and Calvin Howard Akins.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Robert Noel, Steven Norton, Charles Moore and Wayne Bray.
