Forrest G. Harrod, Jr., husband of Judith McDowell Harrod, died at his home on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. Private services will be held in Rogers Funeral Home, and interment will take place in the Monterey Cemetery in Owen County at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Forrest was born in Franklin County on July 7, 1931 to the late Jessie Goin (Harrod) Galbraith and Forrest G. Harrod, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lois Harrod Wragg.
Forrest was a 1949 graduate of Frankfort High School, served in the U.S. Army, and graduated from Georgetown College in 1959. He retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Dept. of Transportation in 1988 and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Harrod Parkinson, Thousand Oaks, CA and Laura Catherine Harrod, Frankfort; two sons, Michael Rube McDowell (Jennifer) Harrod, Bagdad, KY and Russell McDowell (Nancy) Harrod, Frankfort; two granddaughters, Delaney Ryan Parkinson, Thousand Oaks, CA and Jessica Annette Schagne, Frankfort; seven grandsons, Brandon McDowell (Nichole) Harrod, Chicago, IL, Spencer McDowell Harrod, Frankfort, Tyler McDowell Harrod, Frankfort, Jack Quinn Parkinson, Thousand Oaks, CA, Stefan Brice (Amanda) Schagne, Lexington, Jeremy Brian (Danielle) Botkins, Bagdad, and Joshua Keith (Madeline) Botkins, Shelbyville; and three great-grandchildren, Brenyn, Masyn, and Olivia Botkins. He is also survived by his niece, Lisa Beth Wragg (Jeff) Jagnow, Frankfort; nephew, Charles “Chris” Wragg (Dan Morse), Columbia, SC; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Semones and Mickie McDowell; and his mother-in-law, Catherine McDowell.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Disease Association or Alzheimwe’s Disease Association.
