Robert Emmons Jr.

MERIDIAN, Miss. – Robert Woodson Emmons Jr., a former reporter for The State Journal, died Friday of complications of cancer at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He was 63.

A native of Meridian and graduate of the University of Mississippi, he worked at The State Journal as well as the Georgetown News Graphic and Lexington Herald-Leader.

He is the former owner of his family’s business, Troy Laundry and Cleaners. Since retiring from that business he had operated Emmons Properties.

Visitation will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Meridian, from 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a memorial service.  

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Pace Cooke Emmons, and their daughter, Robin Forde Emmons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Emmons Sr. and Rosa Forde Emmons, and his sister, Sarah Wyse Emmons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Emmons Family Scholarship at Meridian Community College, 910 Hwy. 19 North, Meridian, MS 39307, or the charity of your choice.
