Celebration of Life Services for John Hilary Hanly, 69, will be conducted from Capital City Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, with Reverend Jon Sutphin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, January 25, 2012, from 4-8 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Hanly passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013, at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center.
Born July 6, 1943, in Franklin Co., KY, to the late Stephen Sheldon and Charlotte Field Hanly, John served in the U.S. Army Reserve. After earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Western Kentucky University, he worked for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Department of Agriculture as an Agricultural Marketing Specialist for 32 years, eventually serving as Assistant Director of Livestock/Grain Marketing Services, before retiring in 1999. John was on the Board of Directors for the Franklin Co. Farm Bureau and a recipient of the President’s Award; a past President of the National Market News Association and a recipient of the National Livestock Grader of the Year Award in 1995 and the Distinguished Service Award for his career achievements; past Superintendent of the Feeder Calf Show for the North American Livestock Association; a member of the Franklin County Beef Cattle Association, the Extension Council and the Agricultural Development Council; and a volunteer for the Future Farmers of America and recipient of that organization’s Outstanding Service Award. He attended Capital City Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Parr Hanly; a son, John Patrick (Rebecca) Hanly; a daughter, Ann-Hilary (Brad) Heston; two brothers, Steve and Al Hanly; two sisters, Edie Tharpe and Margaret Hanly; and three grandchildren, Sheldon and Cliff Hanly and Evelyn Heston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jake Hanly, and his sister, Kathy King.
Steve Gullette, Frank Haydon, John Sheldon King, Mark Lancaster, Keith Parker, Kenneth Parker, Drew Parr, and Dudley Parr will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Noel Clayton, Ted Collins, Scott Hawkins, Gary Heightchew, Phil Hughes, Courtney Johnson, Jr., Ed McClure, Damon Mitchell, Simeon Parker, John Sherrard, and Coy Trapp.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in John’s memory to The Kings Center or to the Resource Office for Social Ministry, both located in Frankfort.
