Mary Wainscott

Mary T. Wainscott, 86, of Frankfort, KY, passed away Sunday morning, January 20, 2013, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington with her family at her side. She was the widow of Gilbert D. Wainscott to whom she was married for 48 years.

She was born in Westbourne, Campbell County, TN on November 20, 1926, the daughter of the late Houston Snelling and Oreta Warren Snelling.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Kenny) Rayborn; her two sons, Ron (Evelyn) Wainscott and Joe Wainscott; and a stepson, Leon Wainscott, all of Frankfort. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Amanda R. (Jay) Featherston, Kenton (Kayla) Rayborn, Tanya W. West, Joey Wainscott and Will Wainscott. Nanny, as she was affectionately called, is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Rose W. Williams. She was the last survivor of a family of seven siblings, including brothers Warren and Charles Snelling and four sisters, Irene Hillard, Mildred Stewart, Jenny Watts and Peggy Long. She also enjoyed a special relationship with her many nieces and nephews.

She retired from Fruit of the Loom in 1992 with forty years of service. She was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship she shared with her special friend Elaine Mitchell and her Sunday school class. She also enjoyed UK sports, working crossword puzzles, family gatherings and her little dog, Cassie.

Mary was a very special lady whose generosity, kindness, and spirit will endure and be remembered by her family and all who knew her. Although we mourn her passing, we will forever hold her close in our hearts.

Visitation will be at Rogers Funeral Home on Thursday, January 24 from 4-7 p.m., and the funeral will be at Rogers on Friday, January 25 at 11 a.m., with Dr. Michael Hail, pastor of Crestwood Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jay Featherston, Kevin O’Mara, grandsons Will and Joey Wainscott and Kenton Rayborn; and nephews Dale and Glen Long and Bob Stewart. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to Crestwood Baptist Church Fund or Gideons Bible Fund at Crestwood at 1006 E. Main St., Frankfort, KY 40601.
