Dorothy Archer

Dorothy Grugin Archer, 86, passed away January 22, 2013 in Shelbyvi-lle, Kentucky. A Frankfort native, she was born June 7, 1926 at the Forks of Elkhorn to the late Roy Grugin and Pearl Luttrell Grugin. On May 15, 1948 she married Jack B. Archer in Frankfort , KY. He preceded her in death on September 1, 1996.

She is survived by two daughters: Mary Evelyn Poole (Brent) of Frankfort, and Ruth Ann Newman (Tom) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Additional survivors are four grandchildren: Kayla Poole of Louisville, Leah Poole of Frankfort, John Robert Newman (Alanna) of Poplar Bluff, and Mary Patricia Newman of Poplar Bluff. A great-granddaughter also survives: Jaclyn Newman of Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Archer was a graduate of Frankfort High School and the University of Kentucky. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at UK, and earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education.

She was a high school teacher is districts in Florida and Kentucky before joining the State Department of Education, where she was a consultant in the Division of Teacher Education and Certification. She was a member of First Baptist Church, St. Clair Street, where she was a Sunday School teacher and an active participant in the Clothes Closet. She enjoyed reading and playing bridge and being with her family. Visitation is Saturday, January 26, 2013 at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home from 12-3 p.m., with a memorial service at 3 p.m.

Burial will be at a later date.
