Julia Ann Whitaker

Julia Ann Whitaker, 74, wife of Bob for 54 years, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Services for Mrs. Whitaker will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Dr. Jackson Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bardstown, KY. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

She was born in Bardstown, KY to the late J.E. ‘Tubby’ and Margaret Geoghegan Hayden. She was a graduate of Bethlehem High School and attended the University of Kentucky where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and was Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity Dream Girl in 1958. In her youth she enjoyed competing in county horse shows with her five-gaited mare. Also she was an excellent golfer and an avid bowler for over 50 years. She was a former employee of Bowl-A-Way Lanes. She served in countless positions as secretary, president, director, and delegate on local, state and national levels. She served as president of the Lexington Women’s Bowling Association for over 20 years and was recently inducted into the Greater Lexington Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

She is survived by her husband, Bob C. Whitaker; two children, Mike Whitaker and Kim Wilkerson and her husband, Lewis; two grandchildren, Emily and Hayden Wilkerson. The oldest of six children, she is survived by her brothers, Jimmy (Virginia) Hayden and Henry (Jean) Hayden; sisters, Neasy (Scott) Miller, George Marie Houck, and Tootsie Hayden.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Hayden, Henry Hayden, Clint Hayden, Wayne Houck, George Geoghegan, Tom Powell Jr., and Steve Criswell. Honorary bearers are Faye Courtney, Betty Robertson, Louise Black, Helen Gilkerson, and Jean Southern.

While flowers are welcome, donations can be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY, or Capital Ovarian Cancer Organization, 103 Wimbledon, Frankfort, KY.
