Vernon Jones

Vernon Robert Jones, 70, died Thursday, March 7, 2013. He was born Oct. 13, 1943, in Abilene and served 14 months in the United States Navy before being honorably discharged as a conscientious objector. A Jehovah’s witness, he enjoyed reading the Bible and ministering at church meetings, weddings and funerals.

Vernon lived in Florida, Kentucky and various cities in the northeast before returning to Texas in his later years.  He worked as a forklift service engineer for the Clark Equipment Company. He enjoyed dancing, photography, watching Monday Night Football, playing basketball with his son and talking about his children and their families. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Vernon is survived by his children, Edward Jones, Dawn Boyd and her husband, Mike; and grandchildren, Madeline Jones, Camden Bryant Jones and Kristopher Blake Jones. His service will be private. Gifts in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3301 West Fwy., Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
