Nila Samples

Services for Nila Jean Smith Woolums Samples, 77, will be Thursday, March 28, 2013, 2 p.m. at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home, Frankfort, Kentucky. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 5-8 p.m.

Ms. Samples passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, in Canton, Ohio due to complications from a massive stroke in August 2012.

A native of Frankfort, KY, she was born November 29, 1935, to Stiley and Leoma Mitchell Smith. Nila was a former employee of H. K. Porter and Bendix of Frankfort as a Bender Operator, and an Event Specialist for Advantage Sales in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Nila found the most joy in helping others and traveling with her “best bud” and first husband, Cecil Woolums, Sr. She was lost when he passed in 2002.

Nila is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Jay) Dashnow, Jericho, VT; son, Cecil Woolums, Dennison, OH; stepson, Scott Samples; stepdaughter, Kim Samples-Walker; grandchildren, Cheri (Mike) Tracey, Joe (Ashley Fultz Smither) Collings III, Joshua K. Woolums, all of KY, and Justin D. Woolums, Louisville, OH; great grandchildren, Ashley Hall, Eric Dean, Hunter Conway, Savannah Collings, Jacob Tracey, Adrienne Woolums, all of KY; and Libby Woolums, Louisville, OH; a very special niece, Beverly Sullivan O’Dell, and nephew, Donald Sturgeon; and her beloved toy fox terrier, Hercules.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Buddy, Raymond, Curtis, and James Smith; sisters, Mary McMurray, Bessie Sturgeon, and Louise Sullivan; and great granddaughter, Brooke Maye Woolums.

She leaves many dear friends both in Kentucky and Ohio.
