Bobby Sanderson

LAS VEGAS — Robert “Bobby” Welsh Sanderson, 74, of Las Vegas, passed away July 8, 2013.

Born in Woodford County, the oldest of eight children, he spent his childhood in Frankfort until joining the Navy. 

He served in the Vietnam War as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. After 20 years of service, he retired from the Navy and worked for various oil refineries in California. After retirement he and his beloved wife of 51 years, Yasumi Sanderson, moved to Las Vegas and enjoyed their time together.

Mr. Sanderson was preceded in death by his wife, Yasumi, of Japan, the love of his life that he met while in service.

He is also preceded in death by his parents, Ashby Sanderson Sr. and Alma (Foley) Sanderson, and a sister, Lee Dale Sanderson, all of Frankfort. 

Surviving family includes his brothers, Ashby Sanderson Jr., Edward “Beenie” Sanderson and Darrell Sanderson, of Frankfort, and Gary Sanderson of Simpsonville, Ky. Also surviving are sisters Diana K. Sanderson and Anita B. Monroe of Frankfort, and many nieces and nephews.

His ashes will be scattered at sea at the San Diego Naval Base. No services will be observed.
