John Tupts Jr., husband of Edna Smith Tupts, passed away Sunday September 1, 2013, after a brief illness. Born November 22, 1928, in Versailles, KY, he was the son of the late John Tupts Sr. and Lula Belle Mitchell Tupts.
He was a member of Thornhill Baptist Church, Steadfast Sunday School Class and Senior Golden Agers. He graduated from Elkhorn High School. John was a US Army Veteran and retired from Central Screw Company and later retired from Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.
He enjoyed working outdoors and watching old westerns. He also loved animals and never met a dog he didn’t like. John was happiest spending time with family and friends laughing and winning at Skip-Bo.
In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years, he is survived by a son, David Tupts (Leah); daughter, Martha Smith, both of Frankfort; brother, Sonny Tupts, Frankfort; five grandsons, Kyle Smith, Brandon Smith (Jessica) of Frankfort, Ethan Tupts, Aaron Tupts, Nashville, TN, Dylan Tupts, Frankfort and a great-granddaughter, Elena Smith, Frankfort. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Josephine (Peggy) Mullins; brother, Paynter Tupts; granddaughter Mary Ashley Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members and past members of the Steadfast Sunday School Class. Serving as pallbearers are Kyle Smith, Brandon Smith, Ethan Tupts, Aaron Tupts, Dylan Tupts and Chad Hockensmith.
Services for John will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013, with Rev. Bradley Hockensmith officiating. He will be buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation is at the funeral home Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
