Catherine Husted Perkins, 89, passed away on October 4, 2013, just one month and one day short of her 90th birthday. She was a native of Roanoke, VA and an alumna of Jefferson High School and Mary Washington University. For most of her life she attended First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke with her family. For the past three years she had been living in Shelbyville, KY. For over a decade, she also resided in Cary, NC having relocated there from Roanoke.
Ms. Perkins is survived by one son, W. Cary Perkins of Shelbyville, KY; one daughter, Mary Perkins Strautin of Morrisville, NC; one granddaughter, Amanda Perkins Rucker, of Frankfort, KY; and two great-grandsons, Gaven Cole Rucker and Gage Alexander Rucker of Frankfort. She was also survived by two nephews, Dr. Stewart Husted of Lynchburg, VA, and Ronald Clark of Raleigh, NC, and one niece, Mary Husted Ferraro of Radford, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Lee Perkins, who passed away in Cary, NC in 2004; by her parents, Edward W. Husted and Kemper Cary Husted of Roanoke; and her brother, Dr. John E. Husted of Roanoke.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at 11 AM. at Oakey’s South Chapel, located at 4257 Brambleton Ave. in Roanoke. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, from 7 to 9 PM at Oakey’s South Chapel.
