Joseph H. “Poppa Joe” Hawkins, 78, Frankfort, died Friday morning at Select Specialty Hospital (Good Samaritan), Lexington. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home. Brother David Smith and Brother Dan Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow at Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
A native of Lawrenceburg, he was the son of the late Ballard and Christine Hawkins. Joe worked for the Kentucky Department of Human Resources as a case worker. A member of First Christian Church, Lawrenceburg, he also attended North Frankfort Baptist Church and was active in Franklin Co. Senior Citizens.
In addition to his parents, his loving wife of 30 years, Sylvia, and son, Timothy Hawkins, preceded him.
Survivors include three sons, Jonathan Hawkins (Bettina), Patrick Hawkins (Cindy), Lexington and Mike Warfield (Gina), Lawrenceburg; four daughters, Marcy Hawkins (Roger), Lexington, Lisa Rogers (Steve), FL, Debbie Smith (David) and Karen Taylor (Henry), Frankfort; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Rodney Smith, Michael Warfield, II, Mike Overstreet, Roger Cunningham, Aaron Adams and Mike Warfield. Honorary bearers will be his great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. and Monday 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to North Frankfort Baptist Church, 7945 Owenton Road, Frankfort, KY 40601.
