Howard Dawson

Celebration of Life services for Howard Ray Dawson, 78, Frankfort will be held Tuesday 1:30 p.m. at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church. Rev. Todd Lester will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Howard went to meet his Lord on December 6, 2013 and will spend Christmas with his loving wife, Mary.

 A native of Gratz in Owen county, he was a graduate of Owen Co. High School. He retired from the Transportation Cabinet as a utility agent with twenty-eight years of service. He went on to work in various aspects of real estate as an appraisor, realtor, developer and landlord.

He served his community through many organizations including Chairman of the Trustees at Thornhill Baptist Church, city Planning and Zoning Board, campaign chair of Franklin Co. Committee for Brereton Jones for Governor and as Magistrate of the Third District for twenty-one years. Howard will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was the son of Howard W. Dawson and Wildeen Smoot and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary C. Dawson.

Survivors include his sons, Stephen (Julie) Dawson and Randall Dawson, Frankfort; sister Dorothy Sutherland, Frankfort and brother Jerry Dawson, Frankfort; three grandchildren, Lindsey, Seth and Dustin Dawson. 

Pallbearers will be Lindsey, Seth, and Dustin Dawson; Jason Nesselrode, Chad and Ryan Dawson. Honorary bearers will be Orville Duvall, Jr., Lyle Craycroft, Tommy Webb, J.W. Luttrell, Fred Creasy, Fred Goins, Raymond Lee Dawson, Jimmy Gross, Lewis Jenkins, Bob Satterly and Gary Penn.

Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church, 495 Duckers Rd, Frankfort.  LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
