Ambrose Allen

BOONEVILLE — Ambrose Allen was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Clay Co., Ky., to Sam and Julia Carmack Allen. He died Monday.

Allen was preceded in death by a daughter, Leona Reece, and three sisters, Gladys Murray, Maudie Switzer and Ella Faye Sandlin.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Baker Allen; two sons, Jimmy Allen (Becky) of Frankfort and Bill Allen (Lisa) of Owenton; four daughters, Kathey (Dudley) Parr of Frankfort; Carol Ripy of Booneville; Frances (David) Gormon of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Betty (Harold) Tate of Owenton; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also servived by two brothers, Luster Allen and Roscoe (Alma) Allen of Frankfort; four sisters, Willa Glancy, Betty (Johnny) May, Addie Whitlock and Martha McIntosh of Lebanon, Ohio.

Allen was a farmer and retired from Frankfort Plant Board. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the infantry in Europe. He moved to Frankfort from Owsley County in 1955 and lived here 48 years, returning to his family homeplace in Owsley County for the past ten years.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday with visitation starting at 11 a.m. at Searcy & Strong Funeral Home in Booneville, Ky., with Rev. Bill Allen officiating and assisted by Rev. Terry Mathis. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
