LOUISVILLE — Bertha Snelling Mitchell of Louisville, formerly of Frankfort, passed away Tuesday December 17, 2013, at Jefferson Place in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, on July 22, 1923, to the late Cissie Mae and Odie Snelling.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Lowell Manford Mitchell; a grandson, Jason Andrew Mitchell; a sister, Alice; and brothers William, Joseph, Arthur and Harry.
After graduating from Frankfort High School she worked for Southern Bell in Frankfort before marrying in 1944. The family moved from Frankfort to Danville in 1958, and then to Louisville in 1964.
She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Louisville for 50 years, active in the WMU and the Ruth Class. She did volunteer work for Baptist Hospital East, making hundreds of pillows for surgery patients.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Ann; a son Donald B.; three grandchildren, James Albert Mitchell, Jonathan David Mitchell (Meagan) and Erin Michelle Dixon (Blake); a great-grandson, Nolan Scott Mitchell; three nephews; and eleven nieces.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Pearson’s 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Road, Louisville. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
