Kelly Barker Jr., age 91, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.
Services for Mr. Barker will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Dawn Montgomery officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. The Hiram Lodge #4 F&AM, Ann Street, will open at 7 p.m.
A native of Woodford County, he was born September 7, 1922, to the late Kelly Barker Sr. and Ada Seaman Barker. He served in the United States 5th Army Air Corp in various campaigns in the Pacific during World War II. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Service Stars, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star. He retired from Kentucky Army National Guard as Command Sergeant Major. Mr. Barker was a member of VFW Post 4075 and VFW Post 4075 Honor Guard, American Legion Post 7, Masonic Lodge #4 F&AM, Scottish KCCH Rite, Shriners-Louisville, and Eastern Star Order 93.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Carolyn Page Karsner Barker; son, Raymond Voin Barker (Mary Jo); daughter, Georgene Barker Boll (Ted), McLean, VA; grandchildren, Shannon Barker, Kelley Jo Barker McCord, Voin Barker II, Martin Boll, Stephen Boll; and three great- grandchildren, Keifer McCord, Caylin Page Barker and William Voin Barker.
