Earl Stone

Earl Wayne “Jake” Stone was born January 13, 1929, and died on December 30, 2013 after a long illness.

He grew up and spent much of his adult life in Winchester, KY. He moved to Frankfort when he married Earline Poole in 1981.  

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.  He spent his career at IBM, retiring after 27 years. 

He was a master mason in the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, F. & A.M. in Winchester and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. He was also an active member of the Evergreen Baptist Church in Frankfort.

In addition to his parents, Oliver Franklin and Hattie Elizabeth Fisher Stone, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herman Stone and Edward Stone, sister, Betty Sue Stone, and his first wife, Orene Abney Stone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Earline Poole Stone; sister, Viola Moon of Dayton, Ohio; brother, Doyle Stone of Winchester, KY; nephews, Bill Moon, Dayton, Ohio, Wally Stone, Winchester, KY; niece, Ketsy Stone Fields, Winchester, KY; step-son, Brent (Mary Evelyn) Poole, Frankfort, KY; stepdaughter, Rebecca Poole Ballbach (David), Everett, WA; stepgranddaughters, Sarah Ballbach Whelan (Spencer), Austin, TX, Emily Ballbach, Boerne, TX, Kayla Poole, Louisville, KY, Leah Poole Cunningham (Tyler), Frankfort, KY; and step great-granddaughter, Addie Grace Whelan, Austin, TX.

Visitation will be held at the Lecompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home in Frankfort, KY, from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, January 3, and 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, followed by funeral service at 10 a.m. 

Burial will be held at 2 p.m. at the Winchester Cemetery. The service will be led by Rev. Brad Hockensmith, and the eulogy delivered by Dr. Craig Loscalzo. 

Pallbearers will include Wally Stone, Rod Fields, Gary Hutcherson, Ronnie Miller, Richard Miller, and Scott Watson. 

Honorary pallbearers will include Noel Clayton, James Watson, Blake Mitchell, Carroll Cardwell, and Rilen Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Evergreen Baptist Church Building Fund, 2698 Evergreen Rd., Frankfort, KY 40601.
