Services for Sarah Malinda Stone Mitchell, 85, will be conducted from First Baptist Church, Clinton St., at 1 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014, with Reverend Robert Earl Houston officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will be received at the church Friday beginning at 11 a.m.
Mrs. Mitchell passed away Tuesday at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
Sarah was born in Shelby Co., KY, one of two children of the late Tarlton and Emma Furman Stone. Sarah was married for 45 years to Winifered Wallace Mitchell until his passing in 2003. She retired as the Dietary Director for Investor’s Heritage. Sarah was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board for 30 years or more. Her family remembers her as a good cook who loved her family, enjoyed traveling, never met a stranger, and always had a smile to share.
Sarah is survived by her two children, George (Donna) Cottrell and Deborah Beach; Goddaughter, Debora Bobbitt; Grandchildren, Jacqueline Beach, Jason and Derrick Washington, Michael, Garrick and Quintella Cottrell; four great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; Brother, James Owens; and Grandson, George Cottrell, Jr.
Billy Davis, Charles Bell, Jr., Jason Mitchell, Tyrones Mitchell, Mark Lewis, and John Morgan will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Mason, Jr., John Stanley Williams, Carroll Young, Richard Hawkins, John Medlock, and James Bobbitt, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Mitchell’s memory are encouraged to the First Baptist Church, 100 Clinton St, Frankfort, KY 40601.
