Reuben Eugene Smith, 85, of Lawrenceburg passed away at his home on Sunday, February 23, 2014, after a long illness. He was a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg and former member of Swallowfield Baptist Church in Frankfort. Eugene served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 under the 148th Transfer Truck Battalion stationed in Stuttgart, Germany before owning Smith’s Grocery in Swallowfield, KY, beginning his long career as a truck driver and retiring from Florida Tile in Lawrenceburg. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Cunningham Smith and his second wife, Hazel Milburn Smith. He was the son of the late Reuben and Anna Smith and stepson of the late Leslie Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Eugenia Smith Jump and Karen Smith Raisor (Ronnie) of Frankfort; two grandchildren, Brian Joseph “B.J.” Jump, and Brittany Layne Raisor; and one great grandson, Bryce Edward Jump. Surviving siblings include one brother, Maurice Smith (Martha) and one sister, Janice Cunningham (David) of Frankfort.
Visitation will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home in Frankfort on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Services will be officiated by Dr. Mike Hamrick on Wednesday at 1 p.m. followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Raisor, B.J. Jump, Tim Smith, Jeff Smith, Lenn Smith and Rodney Craft. Honorary bearers include Brittany Raisor, Maurice Smith, David Cunningham, Larry Smith and Danny Perry.
