Marjorie Gilbert

With family by her side, Marjorie Sheets Gilbert, 88, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, at home following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gilbert will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Memorial Baptist Church. Dr. Mike Colston will officiate with Dr. William Carter assisting. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. until the service hour.

Mrs. Gilbert was born in Franklin County on March 6, 1926, to the late Ira and Clara Lynem Sheets. She was a retired state employee and an active member of Memorial Baptist Church for over 60 years.  

Mrs. Gilbert was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Floyd G. Gilbert, Sr.; children, Glenda Faye Lynch (Barry), Floyd Guy Gilbert, Jr. (Elsie), Deborah Susan Yost (John); six grandchildren, Eric Yost, Marjorie Doyle, Kelly Gilbert, Christopher Lynch, Kevin Gilbert, Brittany Gilbert; six great-grandchildren, Trevor, Caitlyn and Evan Yost, Ethan Lynch, Hunter Warner and Jackson Austin; a brother, Neville Sheets; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Daniels.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, John Yost; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Warner; four brothers, Willard, Warren, Edward and Junior Sheets; and five sisters, Viola Goins, Nannie Richardson, Agnes Hutcherson, Emma Wiley and Lucille Neeman.

Pallbearers are her grandsons and granddaughters, son, Guy Gilbert and son-in-law, Barry Lynch.  Honorary bearers will be members of Sunshine Class — Memorial Baptist Church, Deacons — Memorial Baptist Church, George Bennett, Chris Smith, Imogene Stucker and Glenna and Carl Hockensmith.

The family acknowledges their appreciation and thank you to Mrs. Gilbert’s caregivers, granddaughter Brittany Gilbert; Rebecca Russell, Mary Cull, Nicheole Schott and for the compassionate medical care given by Dr. Taha and his staff.
