Billy Grider

Billy Buford Grider, age 81, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 19, 2014, following a long illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Grider will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Lester officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the church.

Mr. Grider was born in Harrodsburg, KY on April 4, 1932, to the late William Hollis and Florence Beatrice Drury Grider. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired brick mason. A very humble man, Mr. Grider was an active member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist and a former member and deacon of Bethel Baptist Church. Earlier in life, he enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling. Until the end, he was an avid Nascar fan and a collector of religious hats which he used as a witnessing tool.

A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda Janet King Grider; son, Gary Wayne Grider and his wife, Jennye Mason Grider; daughter, Debra Lee Morgan and her husband, Nathan Howard Morgan; three grandchildren, Jonathan Lee Uschan and his wife, Scarlett Ammons Uschan, Andrew Mason Grider and Cynthia Anne Uschan; a brother, Hollis Charles Grider; two sisters, Mary Helen True, Betty Hughes (Mason); half sister, Katherine Barnes, Rocky Mt., NC; sister-in-law, Charlotte Grider; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Andrew Grider.

Pallbearers are Bill Tabor, Tommy Lippert, Jonathan Uschan, Phillip Barker, Martin Harp and Skip Gaines. Honorary bearers are Z.T. Lester, Mason Hughes, L.T. Harrod, Don McCormick, Jerry Pulliam and Bob Satterly.
