Ardis “Babe” Caldwell, age 102, of Somerset, KY, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in the Rockholds Community of Whitley County on January 28, 1912, daughter of the late Jesse and Jennie McKeehan Jaynes. She was united in marriage to the late Peyton Caldwell whom she married on September 2, 1933 in Corbin, KY. She was a graduate of Williamsburg High School class of 1930 and played as a point guard for the school’s girls’ basketball team. Ardis was a homemaker and member of the Somerset First Baptist Church since 1949, where she was active in Girls Auxiliary (GA’s) and Sunbeams, a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America. Ardis was also actively involved in the Youth Group at First Baptist Church, where she served many youth suppers.
Ardis is survived by two daughters; Patty Caldwell Ross (Ronald) of St. Mary’s, Georgia; Jayne Caldwell Adams (Edward “Eddie”) of Frankfort, KY; one brother Bill Jaynes of Rockholds, KY; five grandchildren; Becki Edwards (Alan) of Somerset, KY; Patti Roach (Evan) Louisville, KY; Amy Adams of Avon Lake, Ohio; Debbi Moyer (Steve) of Georgetown, KY; Jay Ross of St. Mary’s Georgia & seven great-grandchildren: Holli Edwards, Daniel Edwards both of Somerset, KY; Noah and Hannah Roach of Louisville, KY; Andrew McLaughlin of Avon Lake, Ohio; Sarah Moyer of Lexington, KY; Stefani Moyer of Georgetown, KY and four great-great-grandchildren; Chanler and Tyler Edwards, Audrei Kiser and Laci Hoskins all of Somerset, KY.
A service celebrating the life of Ardis “Babe” Caldwell will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory with Bro. David Pendley officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 6, 2014 from noon until 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Tuggle Cemetery, Mt. Zion Community of Whitley County, KY. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
