Shirley J. VanNatta, 65, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. The Frankfort resident was a native of Shelbyville, the daughter of Peggy Hundley VanNatta of Frankfort and the late Noble “Cecil” VanNatta.
She was a long-time member of Capital City Christian Church in Frankfort where her ministers said, “She had a heart for the Lord and had a heart for loving to help people.” Church friends said, “She was known for her hugs at church… you left feeling you got a dose of Shirley.”
She also loved her cats, Frisky and Mary Ellen.
Shirley was a 1966 graduate of Shelbyville High School and was retired after 24 years for the Kentucky Department of Surface Mining in Frankfort.
Besides her mother, Shirley is survived by her brother, Bobby, and her aunt, Geraldine Howard, both of Frankfort; along with several cousins and a host of friends.
Services on Wednesday, April 30 at Capital City Christian Church are being handled by LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home in Frankfort. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. with the funeral at 1 p.m., conducted by Dr. Steve Pattison and the Rev. Larry Weese.
Burial will take place at Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
