Donald E. Werner Sr., 77, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014.
Services for Mr. Werner will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Hope Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stephen Flynn officiating. Burial will follow in Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and also at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
Don was born on August 14, 1936 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation after 33 years, where he worked as a Civil Engineer. In 1992, he began his full-time work as a Building Contractor, and Don owned a surveying and development business for over 50 years. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and very active in the community.
He is survived by his wife, Kitty Thompson Werner; son, Donald E. (Lenora) Werner Jr.; and stepchildren, Angela Tallman, of Denver, CO, Robyn (Brad) Selack, and David Thompson, both of Lexington. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Luke and Lindsey Werner, Cassie and Lauryn Ransdell, Nick and Madison Selack, and Zach and Olivia Thompson. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Emil H. and Elsie Hoyer Werner.
Buddy Smith, Paul ‘Skip’ Gaines, David Thompson, Brad Selack, Russ Romine and Mike Smithson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary bearers are Charles Clore, Bill Parks, Paul Stehr, Don Koch, Mike Zadick, David Hawkins, Eric Mount and Dub Suedekum.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Don’s name to the Franklin County Public Schools Backpack and Snack Program, 916 E. Main St., Frankfort, KY 40601 or to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AK 72202.
