Mary Kathleen Poindexter Dailey. April 29, 1926 – May 11, 2014.
Kathleen was the daughter of Nell Bledsoe and Howard Downing Poindexter, graduating from Peaks Mill High School in 1944. Kathleen was an accountant with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Division of Accounts, retiring after 28 years of service.
After retirement, Kathleen’s passion was quiltmaking, and helping to restore this lost art. She was a co-founder of the Central Kentucky Homemakers Quilt Guild, serving as President for one term. She also served as President of the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society and was a member of the American Quilt Society. Kathleen credited her quiltmaking with helping her get through some difficult times.
Kathleen attended both the Holly Hill and Swallowfield Church of Christ where, along with her late husband, Aubrey Jr., raised her four children to obey the gospel of Jesus Christ. Kathleen was a faithful Christian, attending church as long as she was physically able. She had many friends in the church and neighborhood who maintained a vigil in her last days.
Kathleen is survived by three children: Richard (Sharon) Dailey, Julie (Michael) Bice and Jim Dailey. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Hilarye Dailey (Melissa), Laurel Dailey, Bethany Crockett (Tony), Jason Dailey (Carrie), Katie (Kyle) Lockridge, Megan Dailey and Michelle Bice. Her great grandchildren are Calen Studler Jr. (Alexis), Kurgan Quisenberry, Mallory Quisenberry, Reagan Crockett (Chase) Kirkland, Keiffer Crockett, Trinity Fallis, William Lockridge, Georgia, Avery and Carson Dailey and Jase Kirkland. Kathleen is also survived by one great-great granddaughter, Leigha Studler.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Aubrey Jr.; her son, Gary Dailey; sister, Florabel Penn; and brother, J.W. Poindexter.
Pallbearers will be Jason Dailey, Tony Crockett, Richie Holmes, Rob Fallis, Calen Studler Jr., Kyle Lockridge and Kurgan Quisenberry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601 or American Diabetes Association, 436 Kingswood, Lexington, KY 40502.
Visitation will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home Tuesday from 5-8 p.m., with services at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Bro Bryan Dill will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot at Frankfort Cemetery.
