David O. Shelton, born October 5, 1947, passed away suddenly Sunday, May 25, 2014, in Hazel Mountain, Va. while attending a family reunion at Wolfe’s Den.
He was loved and respected by all who knew him. A self-made man, he worked for himself building Shelton Construction, a successful business for over 30 years. He served his country in Vietnam as a member of the US Army.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Shirley “Chris” Shelton; three children, Tina Satterly (Eddie), Candace Hardy (Keith), David Brett Shelton; five grandchildren, Nicholas Satterly, Alex Vance, Natalie Hardy, Sadie Shelton, Summer Shelton; his brothers and sisters, Harvey Shelton (Shirley), Lonnie Shelton, Sarah Tandy (James), Betty Grantham, Rita Collins (Johnny), Peggy Gardner (Ricky), Ann Goins (Brian Riddle); as well as many nephews and nieces, family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Edna Shelton; sister, Mary Phillips; and brothers, Jerry Wayne Shelton and Leonard Shelton.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with visitation at 1 p.m. until the service. The family asks that family members and friends share memories and thoughts of their loved one.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association are requested.
