Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Meece Gardner

Services for Elizabeth “Libby” Meece Gardner, 89, will be conducted from Harrod Brothers Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014, with Reverend Doug Whitaker officiating and Brian Whitaker assisting.  Family and friends will be received Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gardner passed away June 12, 2014, at Frankfort Regional Medical  Center.

Libby was born in Pulaski County one of four children to the late Edwin Augustus and Mary Alice Snell Meece.  She was a 1943 graduate of Shopville High School in Pulaski County, and after 40 years of service, retired as Executive Director of Interstate Compact of the Dept. of Corrections.  She enjoyed reading and traveling.

She is the loving mother of Pamela (Michael) Deakins, Frankfort; sister of Ron (Jean) Meece, Raleigh Durham, NC and Sue (Gene) Whitaker, Somerset, KY; and doting grandmother of Rebecca Deakins.  She is also survived by great-grandson, Brendan Jamison; step granddaughter, Tiffany Deakins, and multiple nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. “Jiggs” Gardner; and brothers, Wendell and Quentin Meece.

Barry Knight, Eddie Knight, Scott Gardner, Gary Whitaker, Jerome Whitaker, Ed Meece, Darin Meece, and Nick Tinsley, will serve as Pallbearers.  Her great grandson will honor her by serving as Honorary Pallbearer.

  • Pammie!  just wanted to say that I am so sorry on the passing of Libby.  I worked with her for many years, met you many times, and she talked about you all of the time.  She loved you so much.  We loved her too.  I know she will be greatly missed.  God Bless you and your family.
