Johnnie Foree Lefler

Services for Johnnie Foree Jesse Lefler will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m.

Mr. Lefler, 73 years, passed away peacefully surround by family Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

A native of Shelbyville, KY, he was born July 19, 1940. He was currently working part time for the Department of Finance having retired from the same department after 40 plus years of service. Mr. Lefler enjoyed helping others, the outdoors, gardening – he was known for his “green thumb” and sharing vegetables with family, friends and neighbors. A highlight of his week was watching televised church services and reading the Sunday newspapers. Mr. Lefler loved his family, spending time with grandchildren, and his many friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bonnie Yount Lefler; son, Scott Lefler (Karen); daughter, Tammie Eversole-Jackson (Billy S.); four grandchildren, Stacy Ann Lefler Holst, Norway, Thomas Scott Lefler, Boston, MA, Nathan Shayne Eversole, Brayden Tyler Eversole; three great -grandchildren, Mia Cecilie, Leah Sofie, and Lucas Andre Holst, Norway; three sisters, Geraldine Hockensmith, Juanita Brooks, Ann Adcock; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Lefler was preceded in death by his parents, James Oscar and Atha Crawford Lefler and 12 brothers and sisters.

Serving as pallbearers are Danny Eddens, Jerry Terrell, Olsen Woodside, Stanley Lefler, Matt Lewis and Dick Lewis. Honorary bearers will be David Rice, Nathan Eversole, Brayden Eversole and Thomas Lefler.

Flowers are welcome or expressions of sympathy in Mr. Lefler’s memory are suggested to American Cancer Society, 1504 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502.
