Edmond “Ed” S. Harrod Sr., 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, June 23, 2014, where he was reunited with his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Ann Lewis Harrod.
Services for Mr. Harrod will be conducted from Harrod Brothers Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, with Reverend Everett Hawkins officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., and beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Ed was born November 30, 1931, in Franklin County to the late Sanford Miles and Florence Harrod. He enlisted with the U.S. Army, serving with the 101st Airborne during the Korean era. After his service to our country, Ed returned home to graduate from high school. He retired as road foreman from the Transportation Cabinet with over 30 years service. Ed was a life-long farmer and recipient of the Pioneer Farmer Award on April 21, 2005, member of the first class of the Franklin County Parks and Recreation Hall of Fame, and became a Kentucky Colonel on January 11, 1974. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and most recently attended the Faith Baptist Church. Ed’s life revolved around his family and farming, and he was a faithful UK Wildcat fan.
He is survived by four children, Cindy (Gerald) Hedges, Eddie (Susan) Harrod Jr., Karen (Terry) Wooldridge, and Jeff (Beth) Harrod; sisters, Betty Harrod (the late Gayle) Wright and Emily Harrod (the late Kenneth) Moore; grandchildren, Jerry (Lauren) Hedges, Justin (Sara Beth) Hedges, Jennifer (Alvin) Cummins, Kelly (Danny) Harrod, Bethany (Jeff) Abrams, Emily (Josh) Brown, T.J. (Jessica) Wooldridge, Todd (Andrea) Wooldridge, Megan (Matt) Gabbard, Rebecca Harrod, Jenna Harrod, Jacob Harrod; and great- grandchildren, Maseyn, Rylee, Trace, and Miles Hedges; Makayla and A.J. Cummins, Katelyn, Sam, and Maggie Harrod, Allie and Luke Abrams, Tyler and Ella Wooldridge, Molly and Lane Wooldridge, and Owen Gabbard. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, A.C. and Miles “June” Harrod; and sisters, Clara Belle Harrod, Geneva Harrod (the late Raymond) Brewer, and Ann Harrod Rodgers Stinnett.
Mr. Harrod’s grandsons will honor “Paps” by serving as Pallbearers, while the granddaughters and great-grandchildren are recognized as Honorary Pallbearers.
