MIDDLESBORO — Douglas McArthur Bayless Sr. “Mac”, 72, of Middlesboro, Ky., passed away Tuesday, July 1, at the Middlesboro ARH.
He was born January 21, 1942 in Fork Ridge, Tenn., the son of the late Melvin Franklin Bayless and Louisiana “Nan” Collins Bayless.
He was a member of the Millers Chapel Baptist Church.
He had served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, having been assigned to guarding President Lyndon B. Johnson in the mid-60s. He was also a Mason.
He had many friends and neighbors in Frankfort. He ran the Big “B” Dry Cleaners for 28 years and later retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two special aunts: Hazel and Lottie Bayless.
He is survived by the following members of his family: wife, Ila Bayless of Middlesboro; two sons, John (Janie) Bayless of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; and Doug (Cindy) Bayless of Middlesboro, Ky.; daughter, Joan Bayless and George Kinne of Lawrenceburg, Ky.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 4, at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dave Bayless presiding. Music was provided by the Gospel Love Lights. Interment followed in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by members of the United States Air Force Honor Guard and the Campbell County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials take the form of donations to Vets Serving Vets, P.O. Box 72, Middlesboro, KY 40965.
