James Richard Goodpaster, widower of Mary Lucille Houp Goodpaster, passed away at his residence Monday, July 14, 2014.
Services for Mr. Goodpaster will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Elswick officiating assisted by Bro. Roger Stevenson. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m.
A native of Harrodsburg, he was born November 4, 1919, and was the son of Mason Lee and Ora C. Young Goodpaster. He was a retired truck driver and farmer. Mr. Goodpaster attended Christian Assembly Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Jenny (George) Heady; five grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Mills, Sherri (David) Duplessis, Christopher (Yonna) Heady, Richard (Marlenea) Goodpaster, James Evan (Kaye) Goodpaster; 14 great-grandchildren, Jenna and Carson Mills, Taylor, Hunter and Landon Duplessis, Robert D. and Cheyene Goodpaster, Danielle, Nathan, Gabe, Kendal and Kenny Goodpaster, Noah Heady and Trinity Williams; two sisters-in-law, Frances “Sis” Goodpaster and Della Goodpaster; and multiple nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of 67 years and his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Kenneth Goodpaster; a daughter, Patricia Sue Allen Goodpaster; brothers, Everett, Jewel, Walter and Leonard Goodpaster; and two sisters, Irene Goodpaster and Bertha Lee Grubbs.
His family offers special recognition to Dr. Allen Haddix, Hospice of the Bluegrass and Frankfort EMS Services for their care and compassion shown to Mr. Goodpaster.
Pallbearers are Richard Lee Goodpaster, Chris Heady, Gary Goodpaster, Joe O’Connell, Mark Mills, Greg Goodpaster, Tyler Nikolao and Deric Byers. Honorary bearers will be David Duplessis, Hunter Duplessis, Landon Duplessis and James Evan Goodpaster.
