Ross Onan Sr.

Ross Ernest Onan Sr., age 80, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at his residence.

Services for Mr. Onan will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Brother Ira Linville officiating. Burial will follow in Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

A native of Franklin County, he was born Feb. 7, 1934. Mr. Onan worked as an electrician for the Capital Plaza Authority and retired after 35 years of service. He was also associated with Murray Drywall and Wilson Electric. He was a member of First Baptist Church and often attended Sunday School at Crestwood Baptist Church. His family was most important to him. He loved playing with and spending time with his grandchildren, Krista and Ryan, and two special little girls he treated as his own, Emma and Elana “Peanut” Masters. He looked forward to going to yard sales — collecting anything and everything.

Mr. Onan was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Henrietta Adams Onan; his parents, John Sam and Rosie Nell Jackson Onan; brothers, James, Edgar, John, Herbert and Benjamin Onan; and two sisters, Louise Shuttleworth and Katherine Tackett.

He is survived by his son, Ross Onan Jr. and his wife, Lori Smoot Onan; his daughter, Darlene Onan; grandchildren, Krista Onan (Clyde), Ryan Onan (Denise); a great-grandson, Isaiah Ross Sales; brother, Robert Onan (Margie); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Parker, Joyce Adams and Savilla Adams; and was a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved four-legged companion “Little Bear.”

Pallbearers are Ryan Onan, Krista Onan, Bill Parker, Darrell Leigh, BJ Parker, Justice Heltzell and Phil Adkins. Honorary bearers are Walter Hammond, Stuart Loman, Steve Eddington and Wayne Azbill.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy are encouraged to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY.
