David L. Johnson, 59, Shelbyville, died Aug. 6 at his home following an illness. A native of Portage, Indiana, he was the son of Ernest Johnson and the late Velma Lockhart Johnson. He worked at Bethlehem Steel as a blast furnace operator for 30 years prior to his retirement. He relocated to Kentucky, where he worked nearly seven years for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in facility security. He worked primarily at the Cabinet for Human Resources and the History Center. He enjoyed golf and fishing in his leisure time and was an avid UK fan. He was a member of First Church of God in Frankfort.
In addition to his mother, one sister, Larralynn Johnson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of ten years, Linda Johnson of Shelbyville; one daughter, Elizabeth Dawn Berry of Paris, Tenn.; one stepson, Marc Benjamin Davich of Portage, Ind.; his father, Ernest Johnson of Shelbyville; two brothers, Larry Allen Johnson of Mesa, Ariz., and Kevin Michael Johnson of Shelbyville and two grandchildren, Connor Michael Nichols and Jackson Daniel Berry.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at First Church of God, 1029 Burlington Ln., Frankfort, KY 40601 with visitation after 6 p.m. Pastor Thomas Denny will officiate. Cremation will follow the service in accordance with his wishes.
