SHELBYVILLE — Fay Thompson Smith, 77, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 at the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville.
She was a native of Louisville and was retired as a high school English teacher. She was a graduate of Transylvania University where she had been active in the choir and the Chi Omega Fraternity. She was a member of the Shelbyville First Christian Church. She loved being a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and had served as an officer at the district level. As a pastor’s wife, in addition to supporting her husband, she loved singing in the church choirs. She had been a volunteer usher at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. She also loved being a part of garden clubs and book clubs in the towns where she lived.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Bert Wayne Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth W. Smith of Frankfort and Lynn T. Smith of Louisville; and her son, Steve Smith of Shelbyville.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Shannon Funeral Home with Dr. Howard Griffith and Dr. David Charlton officiating. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is at Grove Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Transylvania University, the Alzheimer’s Association or Shelby County Humane Society.
