Luther Jennings Hutcherson, 93, passed away after a long illness, Friday, August 29, 2014.
Services for Mr. Hutcherson will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. Reverend Mikel Robinson will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home Monday from 5-8 p.m. Hiram Lodge #4 will open at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a Masonic Service at the funeral home to begin at 7:30 p.m.
He was born in Franklin County Oct. 9, 1920, the son of the late Luther Beckham and Vassa Lona “Dolly” Herrell Hutcherson. Mr. Hutcherson was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the Signal Corp, United States Army. He was a salesman and retired from Sears Roebuck. Mr. Hutcherson was a Mason, Shriner and member of Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church, West Jefferson, N.C. He was an avid woodworker with a particular interest in building furniture and clocks.
Survivors include two sons, Luther C. (Susan) Hutcherson and David N. (Emma Jean) Hutcherson; two daughters, Alice (the late Dennis) Roarke and Ceresa (Wayne) Clarke; half-sisters, Sally Schafer and Donna Hale; sister-in-law, Gladys Hutcherson; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Vernice Zuehlke Hutcherson; his brother, Robert L. Hutcherson; and sister, Linnie Hutcherson
