Call for artists for
FAF Showcase X
The Foundation is looking for area artists for the Frankfort Arts Showcase X. The Showcase is an evening of music and entertainment showcasing the talents of area performing and visual artists and various types of performances.
Showcase X will be held Saturday, Mar. 4, 8 p.m., in KSUs Bradford Hall. Grants are awarded to selected performing and visual artists. Five grant awards of $250 will be presented to performing artists or artist groups in the program, and two grant awards of $250 will be awarded to visual artists.
Past showcase-winning artists and performers are invited to enter their new artwork or music by applying again after three years.
Artists, vocalists, and performers in Franklin County and the surrounding counties of Anderson, Henry, Owen, Scott, Shelby, and Woodford are eligible to apply. Area schools, choirs, and youth are invited to participate. Artists should have programs, which are high quality examples of music, drama, dance, storytelling, puppetry or the visual arts. Broad-based programs combining the arts and humanities are included in these categories.
Interested artists and performers should contact Jim Terry, chair, at 227-7373, or the Frankfort Arts Foundation. The deadline for all application submissions is Saturday, Feb. 18. Entries should be sent to the Frankfort Arts Foundation, P.O. Box 21, Frankfort, Kentucky 40602-0021. Those selected will be notified of the status of their application by Feb. 24.
Performing artists, bands, ensembles, and choirs are required to submit an application and to send a seven-minute videotape (preferred) or audiotape of recent work for review by a screening committee, and, then, for judging by area performing artists and local arts supporters, prior to Showcase Evening. All tapes and slides will be returned. In addition, artists are asked to submit a photo (5x7 or larger) of the artist(s).
Each selected performing artist will be allowed no more than 15 minutes for performance of their music on Showcase Evening.
Visual artists are required to submit an application and to send four to six slides or art work (originals) representative of their work to be reviewed by a panel of local visual artists and local arts supporters. They, also, should submit a photograph. All slides and works of art will be returned.
Each selected visual artist will be encouraged to set up a display of his or her artwork in the lobby of Kentucky State University Bradford Hall. The visual artists will be introduced on Showcase Evening, and the audience will be invited to tour the art show.
On Showcase Evening, several non-competing performers or guest artists in the community will also be given the opportunity to show their talents in the Frankfort Arts Showcase X.
