Its time to begin preparing for the Franklin County Demonstration Contest. A 4-H demonstration shows how to do something. Any visual aids are welcome but keep the live animals at home! This contest serves as a great opportunity for you to polish you public speaking skills.
The 4-H Demonstration Contest will be held Tuesday, March 7, at the Extension Office beginning at 6:30 p.m. Contestants have the opportunity to win a $50 Savings bond or a free trip to 4-H Camp.
Demonstrations will be broken down into two age groups: juniors, ages 9-13, and seniors, 14-19. Possible demonstration categories include: Agriculture, Animal Science (small and large), Bread, Clothing, Crafts, Dairy Foods, Electric, General, Health, Home Environment and Management, Horticulture, Photography, Safety, Small Engines and Shooting Sports. Demonstrations should be from 5-15 minutes in length.
4-H Camp applications
available at office
4-H camp applications are now available at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Service Office. Teen and adult counselor applications are available as well. 4-H camp will be held July 3-7 at North Central 4-H Camp in Carlisle.
This year camp will be a traditional five-day camping experience. The fee for camp is $125. Camp applications must be picked up and returned between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The deadline for turning in applications is June 5.
There will be no specific 4-H camp sign-up nights or days this year. Camp applications will be distributed and accepted on a first- come basis.
The number of campers we can take to camp is contingent on the number of teen and adult volunteers. Therefore we do need teen and adult counselors to attend camp. Adults attending camp will receive a free camp trip for their child to attend camp as well.
